Josceline , Of Louraine (Abt 1115-1180) |
Josceline , Of Louraine
Josceline had
descended directly through Gerberga, who was the daughter of Charles,
Duke of Lorraine, from Charlemagne, king of the Franks and later
Emperor of the Romans. Josceline was also King Henry II's
brother-in-law (through his sister Alice of Louraine, King Henry II's
second wife). Agnes demanded upon marraige that he give up either his
family name or his coat of arms. Josceline agreed to assume the name
Percy and to incorporate the ancient royal coat of arms of Brabant, his
father's family, into the Percy shield. Josceline married Agnes de PERCY, daughter of William de PERCY and Alice de Clare, after 1154. (Agnes de PERCY was born about 1142, died before Oct 13, 1204 and was buried in Whitby Abbey.) |
